Everyone have the
ability to access to the internet, it just within a second, a person can access
to the global internet whenever they want to. It does not matter whether a
modern journalist or traditional journalist, it becomes a challenge for them to
report an issue to a global audience. This comes to the mind that, different
local cultural practices, language barrier, different perception and
interpretation towards the reporting. However, Freeman (2008) said that what is reported now, will reach to an
international audience and will impact how the nations view their constituency
and their place in the world. Therefore, it is very important for journalist
to filter their work, facts check before publishing to online news portal. Besides
that, when reporting to a global audience, transparency in reporting is very
crucial for a news agency in term of the reputation of the company. An honest
and truthful reporting with zero bias is what the people around the world are expecting
from the news agency. Moreover, it is not advisable for a journalist to use
their local jargon or slang into their write up, because reporting to a global
audience may not understand the slang or jargon, therefore, it may cause an unprofessional
image towards the news agency. Lastly, story framing and using a different
cultural source from different country can makes the story stay relevant and credible
(Lieb 2009, p. 293-306). A journalist
should know what to report when comes to not only local but global.
